Sage Northcutt Undergoes Nine-Hour Surgery for Facial Fractures

In a social media update, Sage Northcutt reveals that he suffered far more than just a knockout defeat at ONE Championship 96: Enter the Dragon.

Sage Northcutt sustained more than just a knockout loss at ONE Championship 96: Enter the Dragon.

Making his long-awaited promotional debut, Northcutt (11-3) was knocked out in just 29 seconds, falling victim to a violent right hand from veteran kickboxer Cosmo Alexandre (8-1). Considering the circumstances, the defeat was obviously a major blow for Northcutt’s career but while he appeared fine after the fight’s end, far more damage had actually been done.

Sharing an update on social media, Northcutt announced that he’d been hospitalized, undergoing a nine-hour surgery for the eight facial fractures he sustained opposite Alexandre.

This is the first knockout defeat of Northcutt’s professional career and while his return date remains a mystery, he’ll obviously be desperate to bounce back as soon as possible.  ‘Super Sage’ signed with ONE Championship all the way back in November but Alexandre was never an easy task, with the Brazilian not suffering a defeat in MMA since his professional debut.

ONE Championship 96: Enter the Dragon took place this past Friday in Singapore and was headlined by Shinya Aoki vs. Christian Lee. For full results from that event, click here.
