Jim Ross Proposes That Kofi Kingston Take On A More Serious Demeanor Now That He’s WWE Champion
Jim Ross throws the idea out there of Kofi Kingston possibly taking on a more serious demeanor now that he’s leading the SmackDown roster.
The current WWE Champion Kofi Kingston was riding a wave of momentum coming out of WrestleMania 35 where he captured the WWE Championship from Daniel Bryan. That momentum came to a halt this past Tuesday on SmackDown Live when honorary New Day member Kevin Owens turned his back on Kingston and Xavier Woods and put himself in position to challenge Kofi for the WWE Title.
Although the company’s top title is around the waist of Kingston, he still comes out in front of the fans tossing pancakes and displaying his dance moves. WWE Hall Of Famer and AEW commentator Jim Ross proposed that Kofi take on a more serious attitude now that he’s WWE Champion. Ross made those remarks during the latest edition of his ‘Ross Report’ podcast and feels that the New Day gimmick works for a certain age bracket but now that Kofi is a top champion, a more serious attitude could help.
“[Kevin] Owens is a much better heel than a babyface. He’s a big time talent in my view. So is Kofi. Somebody needs to tell Kofi that hopping to the ring, carefree, happy, smiling — I don’t know if that fits the champion. Especially when you’re a marked man.” Ross said. “The days of the six-man tags with New Day… it’s a different ballgame now. You’re the man. Everybody’s gonna give you their best shot. At least they should right? So the happier, carefree demeanor may be fun for children, who can laugh at or with the antics. Not so much I don’t think for the older fans. 18-34, 18-49. So, just saying that maybe somebody that’s producing Kofi might wanna suggest that you figure out how you’re perceived when you’re introduced, and sometimes maybe, that perception of Kofi is not indicative of who is he is. I’m a big fan of his by the way.”
