Devin Haney, Shakhram Giyasov And Murodjon Akhmadaliev Sign With Matchroom Boxing
A trio of unbeaten rising stars have signed promotional deals with Matchroom Boxing.
Among the three names the promotional company announced, perhaps the biggest name is lightweight contender Devin Haney, who is inching closer to a potential world title shot down the line. The other two fighters, both under co-promotional deals with World of Boxing, are Shakhram Giyasov and Murodjon Akhmadaliev.
Haney, the current WBC International and WBO Intercontinental lightweight titleholder, has won all 21 of his pro bouts, winning 14 of those fights from inside the distance. The 20-year-old is ranked in the top of all four major governing bodies: WBA (No. 5), WBC (No. 3), WBO (No. 7) and IBF (No. 10). Haney’s Matchroom Boxing debut will take place on May 25 in Maryland as part of the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut against Carlos Takam. The card will be streamed on DAZN in the United States.
Giyasov is a silver medalist from the 2016 Olympics and had a very busy rookie year in the pro ranks in 2018. Giyasov fought six times in a span of eight months in 2018, knocking out five of those opponents. The 25-year-old from Uzbekistan, coming off a TKO win back in February, will fight on the undercard of the April 26 Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN at The Forum in California.
Akhmadaliev has fought just five times as a pro, but already established himself as a top contender at 122 pounds. In his fourth pro bout, Akhmadaliev knocked out Ramon Contreras to win the WBA Intercontinental title and is already the mandatory challenger to the WBA world title being held by Daniel Roman. Like Giyasov, Akhmadaliev has his own fight on the undercard of the April 26 card.
