Dina Thorslund To Defend WBO Super Bantamweight Title In June

WBO super bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund will remain in Denmark for her next world title defense.

Thorslund will defend her title against mandatory challenger April Adams at the Forum Horsens on June 22. This will mark Thorslund’s second title defense this year.

Having held the WBO title since 2018, Thorslund emerged as one of the best 122-pound fighters in just a few fights. Thorslund won the title last August when she defeated Jessica Arreguin Munoz by unanimous decision and followed it up with a win over Alesia Graf back in January. Thorslund stated in a press release that she believes her fight against Adams will be a physically-demanding one.

“Adams is a strong boxer, who’s in good shape, so I think it will be a very physical battle. She’s tough as nails, but not tougher than me. I will be 100% prepared for this fight, and will show the best version of me in front of the fans at the Forum Horsens. I will show why I’m World Champion, and Adams isn’t,” Thorslund said.

Adams has won her last seven fights, which included winning the Australian and WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight titles. Adams sports a 11-1-1 pro record and is coming off a second-round TKO win over Rungnapha Kaewkrachang this past August in Australia.

“I think Thorslund is a very strong fighter. She is a World Champion for a reason, but I back myself. I back the sacrifices I’ve made and the hard work I have put in. I owe it to my team and supporters, who have been behind me on this journey, to win this fight, and on June 22, the belt will have a new home,” Adams said.

This isn’t the only WBO women’s world title fight taking place in June. Christina Linardatou will defend her WBO junior welterweight championship against Deanha Hobbs on June 7 at the Olympic Hall Galatsi in Athens.
