Report: Eddie Wineland Faces Grigory Popov At UFC 238
A bantamweight division attraction has been added to UFC 238 according to The Fight Nation as Eddie Wineland is going to be in action against Grigory Popov.
Wineland (23-13-1) enters the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the duo of John Dodson and Alejandro Perez. Wineland hasn’t picked up a victory in over two years, with that last victory coming against Takeya Mizugaki at UFC On Fox 22. Wineland has previously challenged for the UFC Bantamweight Title, losing to then champion Renan Barao at UFC 165.
Popov (13-1-0) is going to be making his UFC debut in this encounter and does so on the strength of a nine fight winning streak. Popov has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came against Alexey Polpudnikov at FEFoMP: Russia’s MMA Supercup in December of 2014. Popov has seen six of his fourteen professional MMA bouts go the distance and the fighter won all six of those encounters.
UFC 238 takes place on Saturday, June 8 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
