Danny Garcia Stops Adrian Granados In PBC On Fox Main Event
Danny Garcia gets a big win on Fox and is effectively back in the welterweight title conversation.
Garcia bounced back from a WBC welterweight title loss to Shawn Porter last year by stopping Adrian Granados in the main event of a PBC on Fox card from Carson, California. Garcia captured the WBC Silver welterweight title and with the win, he is now on the verge of challenging for another world championship.
The two-division champion dominated the fight from the start, dropping Granados twice in the second round to take a commanding lead in the scorecards. The first knockdown came from a perfectly-timed left hand by Garcia and the second knockdown came at the end of an exchange of punches. Garcia would continue landing several power punches to hurt Granados for the remainder of the fight.
Garcia dropped Granados, who was bleeding from his nose, a third time in the fight when he landed a series of punches to Granados who was up against the ropes in the fifth round. The fight ended about halfway through the seventh round when the referee stopped the action as Garcia was already unloading on Granados. It was the first time that the always-tough Granados had been stopped in his career.
The win was Garcia’s first since knocking out Brandon Rios in February 2018 to win an eliminator for the WBC welterweight title. Although he was unsuccessful in capturing the WBC championship, Garcia’s latest outing all but guarantees him a big fight next. There were some rumors that Garcia was in the running to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent and in a post-fight interview, Garcia addressed a potential clash with the current WBA “Regular” welterweight titleholder as well as future fights against several 147-pound champions.
“I hope I didn’t scare Manny Pacquiao away,” Garcia said. “I’d love a rematch with Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman, or a fight with Errol Spence Jr. I’m back!”
Granados’ record now drops to 20-7-2 and has now lost three of his last six fights with one of those fights ending in a no decision.
