Report: Adalaide Byrd In Canelo vs. Jacobs Judging Pool
The always controversial Adalaide Byrd is one of several judges being considered to be one of the three official scorers for Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs.
According to a report from Boxing Scene, Byrd was included in a pool of judges the Nevada State Athletic Commission is choosing from for the middleweight title unification. While the commission has the final say on who judges fights, the boxers involved have the option to protest certain judges being in their fight and the commission would take those protest under consideration in order to choose, what the commission believes, the most optimal and objective scoring trio.
Byrd has a long history of providing controversial scores in big fights that she has judged over the years, but perhaps the one scorecard that is still fresh on many people’s minds is her 118-110 score in favor of Alvarez during his first fight against Gennady Golovkin in 2017. Byrd was the lone judge to give Alvarez the win while Don Trella had the fight evenly scored at 114-114 and Dave Moretti had Golovkin winning 115-113, meaning the fight ended in a split draw. Both Trella and Moretti are also in the pool for the Nevada State Athletic Commission to choose from.
Byrd has also scored past fights involving Alvarez, especially when he faced Amir Khan in 2016 and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2017. Byrd had Alvarez losing to Khan on the scorecards at the time of Alvarez winning the fight by sixth-round knockout and Byrd was in agreement with the other two judges in awarding the current unified middleweight champion a 120-108 score against Chavez.
Canelo vs. Jacobs will take place on May 4 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will headline a card streamed on DAZN in the United States. The winner walks away with the unified WBA “Super,” WBC and IBF middleweight titles. Fightful will have live coverage of the entire card.
