Kamaru Usman Wants Colby Covington To Beg Him For A Title Shot

UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman and former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington are expected to clash later this year.

Usman is willing to give Covington a shot at the gold, but he wants Covington to beg for it first.

“Now you have to beg me for that fight,” Usman said backstage at UFC 236 (via Dave Doyle & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie).

Covington and Usman have been going at each other for quite some time now, including a brief scuffle in Las Vegas after UFC 235.

One thing that Usman doesn’t like about Covington is that the former interim welterweight champion acts like he is entitled to everything.

“This guy feels really entitled, and you see him all the time, and especially now, this whole rant ‘Dana you promised me this, why did you give me this interim belt?’” Usman said. “He nags, and that’s just kind of his mentality, how he goes about situations – and that’s not who I am. We immigrated here to give me that opportunity. I had to take that opportunity. I had to put my heart and soul into what I was going to do in order to be at the pinnacle. I put the hard work in, which is why I’m in the position I’m at now.”

There is no word yet as to when the title bout will come to fruition, as Usman is recovering from a hernia surgery that took place after UFC 235.
