Claressa Shields vs. Christina Hammer Peaks At Under 400,000 Viewers

Ratings and viewership numbers are in for Claressa Shields vs. Christina Hammer.

The April 13 Showtime-televised card from Atlantic City, New Jersey, headlined by Shields vs. Hammer for the undisputed women’s middleweight title, averaged 336,000 viewers for the entire telecast. The card also drew 150,000 viewers and a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The fight peaked at 369,000 viewers.

Shields dominated Hammer throughout the 10-round fight and won by unanimous decision to become the first woman to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine middleweight titles. Despite the historical significance of the fight, the peak viewership is slightly lower than the viewership from Shields’ last fight on Showtime. That appearance, which saw Shields defeat Hanna Gabriels back in June 22, 2018, had a peak viewership of 410,000.

The card had to contend with a number of sporting events taking place at around the same time, including a PBC card where the prelims were on FS2 and the main card on FS1. DAZN also had a boxing card being broadcast live from Mexico with Jaime Munguia defending his WBO junior middleweight title against Dennis Hogan.

Showtime’s next live boxing card will take place on April 27 in Las Vegas. The card will be headlined by Robert Easter Jr. vs. Rances Barthelemy for the newly-created WBA “Regular” lightweight title. Also on the card is a title eliminator for the WBC junior welterweight championship between former champion Viktor Postol and IBO titleholder Mohamed Mimoune. The opening fight of the Showtime telecast is a 10-round heavyweight bout between Efe Ajagba and Michael Wallisch.
