Dana White Wants Max Holloway Back At Featherweight
Dana White says Holloway looked small at lightweight and wants the fighter to go back to the featherweight division.
“It’s crazy, what I didn’t expect is he looked small at 155,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via Mike Bohn & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “So I look forward to him going back to 145.”
Holloway was making his UFC Lightweight Division debut in this encounter, having previously spent his entire UFC run competing at featherweight.
White says that Holloway immediately went to the hospital after the title fight and the fighter didn’t partake in any post-fight festivities.
“We took him straight from the octagon to the hospital,” White said. “I told my guys, ‘I don’t want him doing any interviews. Take him straight to the hospital.’ He’s tough, he’s awesome, but I’d like to see him at 145 pounds again. Poirier looked much bigger than him in my opinion.”
Poirier will now go onto fight UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title unification bout later this year, but Holloway’s next move isn’t known at this point in time.
