Scott Dawson Says He Wanted To Ask For His Release After 2017 Bicep Injury
Scott Dawson opens up about 2017 bicep injury.
Down in NXT, The Revival could do no wrong. Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder were having Match of the Year candidates on every TakeOver event and revitalizing tag team wrestling in the process. They were moved to the main roster following WrestleMania 33 to much fanfare but failed to gain immediate traction. Wilder suffered a broken jaw within weeks of their debut, putting any plans on hold until he returned. Shortly after he returned, Dawson suffered a right bicep injury while performing a lifter in a match against The Bar.
It was during that injury that Dawson contemplated his future with the company.
“I remember being so embarrassed that, that happened to us. I didn’t talk to people for months at a time,” Dawson said in a WWE Now Roundtable prior to WrestleMania. “I told my wife, ‘I’m gonna ask for my release.’ I didn’t want to face…I feel that, at NXT, we were such a vital part of NXT. We helped that place grow and I thought we were one of Hunter’s guys and I didn’t want to face Hunter because I was so embarrassed. I didn’t want to face Dash, any of my friends or peers because I was so embarrassed that it happened to me. I just wanted to quit. I told my wife, ‘I can’t go back.’ Because I was so demoralized. But I knew coming back, I was like, ‘let’s give it a shot, we just have to work harder than everyone else like we’ve always done.’ It just added to the chip on our shoulder. It worked out.”
It wasn’t until earlier this year that The Revival started to make a real impact on the tag team division. They won the Raw Tag Team Titles on Feb. 11 and held them until WrestleMania 35, when they were defeated by Curt Hawks & Zack Ryder.
