Natalya: Competing For WWE Women’s Tag Titles Mean Just As Much To Me As Main-Eventing WrestleMania
Natalya opens her thoughts ahead of WrestleMania.
WWE’s 35th anniversary of their spectacle known as WrestleMania commences today at 5 PM EST on the WWE Network. Two of the marquee matches on the show include the main event which is for the RAW and SmackDown Live Women’s Championships as Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey clash to find out who is “The Man” in the sports-entertainment company. Sasha Banks and Bayley will also be defending their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in a Fatal 4-Way tag match against Beth Phoenix and Natalya, The IIconics, and Nia Jax and Tamina.
Former SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya published her weekly blog post for the Calgary Sun and wrote about her excitement for WrestleMania. Natalya mentioned how she is thrilled for Kofi Kingston and noted that her tag title match means just as much to her as main-eventing the “Show Of Shows”. Here’s an except from the post:
Drumroll, please! I’m most excited for the Fatal 4-Way Women’s Tag Team Championship match that I am in! The women that are competing in this match are some of the toughest competition in WWE. Sasha Banks and Bayley are the current Women’s Tag Team Champions. The Boss and Hug Connection, as they are called, are a well-oiled machine and best friends who know tag team wrestling like the back of their hands. There’s Nia Jax and Tamina, who bring strength and power to the table and both women are over six foot tall. Undoubtedly, Nia and Tamina are fierce and as tough as they come. There’s also Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, the dynamic duo known to the WWE Universe as “The IIconics.” The IIconics are a feisty Australian duo who have been a team since they came to WWE. They’re masters on the microphone and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to win! In the words of Eddie Guerrero, “they lie, cheat and steal!” But I have a good feeling that myself and Beth Phoenix are taking home the titles at WrestleMania. We plan on dedicating our win to The Hart Foundation.
I was asked recently during a recent interview how I felt about not being a part of the main event this year at WrestleMania, considering that it was all women. I didn’t have to think too long about my answer. I’m in a match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship and this match means just as much to me as main-eventing WrestleMania. I’m reuniting with my best friend, WWE Hall of famer, Beth Phoenix, and we are honoring the Hart Foundation the day after my father Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart and uncle Bret Hart get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. It couldn’t get any bigger or better than that.
See you at WrestleMania this Sunday.
