Michelle Waterson Says She Deserves A Title Shot
A victorious Waterson, who is also ranked in the #9 spot in the division, says that she deserves the next opportunity at the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship.
“The case is I’ve been in the top 10 a lot longer than both of them have,” Waterson said after the event (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “I’ve fought all the top girls and I should be next.”
Waterson has previously fought UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas, suffering a second round submission loss at UFC On Fox 24.
The fighter knew that Kowalkiewicz was going to be a tough opponent and she had to stay focused in order to get the win.
“Every round that we had to go into the next round I knew that I had to stay focused or more focused,” Waterson said. “Karolina is the type of fighter who picks up steam as the roads ago on and I knew I just had to stay focused and try to win.”
Namajunas is putting the gold on the line at UFC 237, facing Jessica Andrade in the main event of the show.
