Eddie Hearn Lists Possible Opponents For Dillian Whyte’s Next Fight

While Dillian Whyte is still waiting for what his future has in store in terms of getting a world heavyweight title opportunity, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has a few names in store for the British star.

Whyte is currently hoping for the WBC to name him the next mandatory challenger for its heavyweight title, currently being held by Deontay Wilder. But in the meantime, Hearn has a list of opponents whom Whyte can face after the WBC makes its decision.

Hearn named Luis Ortiz, Alexander Povetkin, WBA “Regular” champion Manuel Charr, and European champion Agit Kabayel as names whom Whyte can face. Regardless of the opponent, Hearn said the plan is to have Whyte return to the ring either on July 6 or 13 but a decision will be made after the WBC ruling.

“We want Dillian Whyte to be the mandatory with the WBC, so that will be ruled in the next 10-14 days. A lot depends on that decision in terms of who he fights in July. The plan is to still go July 6 or 13, and we’ll wait for the WBC’s decision, and then make our choice following that,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

The last few weeks has been very unpredictable for Whyte. Whyte, the current WBC Silver champion, was under the impression that Wilder would face Tyson Fury next in rematch and so Whyte was ordered to face Dominic Breazeale for the interim title. Before Whyte and Breazeale finalized a deal, Fury signed a co-promotional deal with Top Rank, which effectively dashed any hopes of Wilder and Fury having their rematch in the first half of 2019.

Wilder then moved on to a fight against Breazeale, set for May 18 in Brooklyn, New York, leaving Whyte without an opponent for his next fight, much less a world title opportunity.
