Report: Jon Jones vs. Thiago Santos Headlines UFC 239, Amanda Nunes vs. Holly Holm To Co-Headline
The UFC Light Heavyweight Title is going to be defended in the main event of UFC 239 according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN as Jon Jones defends the gold against #3 Thiago Santos. Additionally, a UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title bout will co-headline the card as Amanda Nunes puts the strap on the line against #2 Holly Holm.
Jones (24-1-0-1NC) is going to be making the second defense on his latest championship reign, last defending it against Anthony Smith at UFC 235. Jones is going to be headlining his fourteenth straight UFC pay-per-view and it has been over eight years since the fighter didn’t headline a card.
Santos (21-6) has been undefeated since moving to the light heavyweight division, last defeating Jan Blachowicz at UFC Fight Night Prague. Santos has competed at both middleweight and light heavyweight in the UFC, holding an overall record of 13-5-0 in the promotion.
Nunes (17-4-0) is making the fourth defense of her championship, last defending it against Raquel Pennington at UFC 224. Nunes is also the current UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion, defeating Cyborg to win the gold at UFC 232.
Holm (12-4-0) has won just two of her last six under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over the duo of Bethe Correia and Megan Anderson. Holm is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, defeating Ronda Rousey to win the gold at UFC 193.
