Santiago Ponzinibbio Willing To Fight Teammates To Get A Title Shot

Santiago Ponzinibbio is currently ranked #8 in the UFC Welterweight Division, making him a top contender in the weight class.

The welterweight star wants a title shot and is even willing to battle teammates to earn one.

“No. For sure, if it’s for the title shot, we’ll fight man. It’s a team but it’s a dream to each guy. It’s good for the gym too, you know? A lot of good contenders and prospects. Before the title, we fight, we know that,” Ponzinibbio said on The Body Lock (via Lewis Mckeever of Bloody Elbow).

Ponzinibbio is a member of American Top Team (ATT), which is home to other welterweight contender like former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.

In order to earn a title shot, one fighter that Ponzinibbio thinks he needs to get past is former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley.

“Maybe I need to fight a top-five guy and I think Tyron Woodley is a good option. It’s a good fight, good matchup. I know I can finish anyone in this division. I believe in my power, my work, I work very hard for a long time. I’m ready and excited to be back. This division, I think, is the most exciting division. A lot of good guys, a lot of high-level guys but I’m ready to make history. I think Tyron Woodley is a really exciting fight,” says Ponzinibbio.

There is no word on when Ponzinibbio will compete next, as he was last seen in action in the main event of UFC Fight Night Buenos Aires.
