Tyson Fury: If Deontay Wilder Rematch Doesn’t Happen, He Already Lost
Tyson Fury did not mince words when talking about WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
The two fighters were once appeared to have a rematch from their exciting first fight in December 2018, but now that both men are competing on different networks, the possibility of a rematch are now much lower than ever before. In an interview with BT Sport, Fury said he no longer wants to talk about Wilder and stated if the rematch doesn’t ever happen, then it falls on Wilder.
“[The fight’s] gotta happen. [The first one] was a great fight. The fight has got to happen sooner or later. It won’t be next as I’m fighting Tom Schwarz and he’s fighting Dominic Breazeale and hopefully we get it after that… If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, he already lost. Deontay is a nobody, let’s face it. He was nobody before he fought me. He lost to me, he’s still a nobody. It is what it is. No interest in talking about the bum. Big, bum dosser. that’s all he is,” Fury said.
The reason why the rematch is not happening next is because when Fury signed with Top Rank several weeks back, Top Rank and ESPN wanted Fury and Wilder to take interim fights in the summer on ESPN platforms before having a pay-per-view rematch in the second half of 2019.
But Wilder rejected Top Rank’s multi-fight offer and so moved on to fight mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale on May 18. The fight will take place at the Barclays Center and be televised on Showtime. Fury is currently scheduled to face undefeated German heavyweight Tom Schwarz on June 15 in Las Vegas.
