Jennifer Maia Learned A Lot From Losing In Her UFC Debut

Jennifer Maia made her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night Boise, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Liz Carmouche.

Despite losing in her UFC debut, a lot of lessons were learned by the Brazilian fighter.

“I always let things happen as they should,” Maia told MMA Junkie. “I’ve always been happy with every opponent I’ve had, since after each difficult bout against a worthy opponent, my name recognition increased significantly, and I learned a lot with each defeat. In fighting, you either win or you learn. My UFC debut was a loss. But I feel I learned a lot from facing a great, experienced opponent. That’s going to be a great help going forward.”

Maia has found a lot of success outside of the UFC, including capturing the Invicta FC Flyweight Title in March of 2016.

The next challenge isn’t going to be much easier for Maia, who faces Alexis Davis at UFC Fight Night Nashville.

“Alexis Davis is very experienced,” Maia said. “I am ready, and I will continue to work towards being even more ready so I can be victorious in this fight. Since the UFC only has tough fights, regardless of who I face, I prepare in every facet of the sport. It will be hard. But I’ll look to defeat her in every way possible.”

UFC Fight Night Nashville takes place tonight from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee with Stephen Thompson and Anthony Pettis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
