Derrick Lewis Getting ACL Surgery, Wants To Fight By The End Of The Year
Coach Bob Perez recently stated that Lewis competed at the event with some serious knee issues, which was also confirmed by Helen Yee.
Lewis is now going to get those issues fixed, as the fighter is set to undergo ACL surgery next Tuesday (March 26) according to ESPN.
“I was going to retire a few years ago because I didn’t want to have surgery,” Lewis said to MMA Junkie. “I’m fixing it now because it’s too weak to stop a takedown. I want to fight by the end of the year.”
The fighter reportedly first started suffering from knee issues after a bout against Ruan Potts at UFC 184 in February of 2015. Potts had apparently caught the fighter in a knee bar during their fight, which is allegedly where the issues all began.
There is no word at this time as to how long Lewis is going to be out of action for, but more should be known once the surgery commences. Lewis, in the above statement, said that he would like to return to action by the end of the year.
