Report: Lawsuit Filed Against Conor McGregor After Cellphone Incident
Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor was arrested earlier this week after laying waste to a cellphone owned by Ahmed Abdirzak. The fighter had allegedly taken the phone as Abdirzak sought a picture with him and then smashed said phone before leaving with the destroyed device.
The fighter has since been released from jail after paying a bond, with an arraignment hearing scheduled for April 10.
However, it would appear that McGregor’s issues with Abdirzak may have just gotten started because the phone smashing victim has filed a lawsuit against the UFC star according to MMA Junkie.
Records obtained by MMA Junkie from a Miami-Dade County court show that Abdirzak is seeking more than $15,000 in damages. Abdirzak is also accusing McGregor of battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The cellphone was apparently valued at approximately $1,000 and Abdirzak claims that the damaged phone also had pictures of his child on it.
McGregor’s legal team, in a brief statement to MMA Junkie on the matter, is stating that Abdirzak is suing McGregor in “a quick effort seeking a payday.”
It has been quite the crazy week and change for McGregor, who just finished serving a community service sentence in the state of New York for the UFC 223 bus attack and is also in the midst of serving a six month suspension for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
