Jungle Grrrl Discusses Earning Respect In The Men’s Locker Room, Eliminating Cancers In WOW

Since it’s inception in 2000, Jungle Grrrl has always been a part of the Women of Wrestling roster. On the very first episode of the show, she defeated Terri Gold, who would go on to win the WOW Title in a 20-woman battle royale. The two battled in a rematch on episode three, with Gold coming out on top.

WOW went dormant from 2001 to 2012, but when it returned, Jungle Grrrl was right there.

Speaking to Kristen Ashly of Diva Dirt, Jungle Grrrl discussed her loyalty to WOW Founder David McLane and her role in helping build the culture in WOW.

My loyalty lies to (David McLane). I’m very honored to have started with (WOW) and see it continue,” said Grrrl. “Even when I hang up my…no boots that I don’t wear, I’ll remain with the company. Whether that’s continuing to build the culture of the company, which I am really passionate about. David will tell you that that’s first and foremost what I talk to him about. You cannot have a cancer in the company. The women have to match that culture. If they don’t, you have to get rid of them immediately. It’s not to be taken lightly. If somebody doesn’t see that vision then they don’t fit in with the company.”

Jungle Grrrl continued, discussing how WOW was a separate world from the rest of wrestling due to their all-female roster. And how when WOW took a break, she had to earn respect in other locker rooms.

“We were very isolated from what reality is with WOW, which is part of the reason why it was so great. Because there was a level of respect for the women,” she said. “When I went in, there was no respect for women’s wrestling. There was no respect in the WWE locker room. There was certainly no respect in the Indie circuit. I had to earn every bit of respect I got. It was not easy. There were not a lot of women, so I ended up wrestling a lot of guys. I would end up doing kind of the Doink The Clown, comedic wrestling. I learned a lot and wouldn’t trade any of that time for anything.”

You can catch Jungle Grrrl every Friday night on WOW beginning at 9 p.m. ET on AXS TV.
