David Finlay Pulled From New Japan Cup Due To Shoulder Injury

Bad news for David Finlay.

NJPW announced that Finlay has been pulled from the upcoming New Japan Cup following a shoulder injury suffered at NJPW-ROH Honor Rising on Feb. 23. A replacement was not named. Finlay was scheduled to face Hiroyoshi Tenzan in the first round on Mar. 10.

The injury occurred during the main event of Honor Rising Night 2. Finlay, teaming with Juice Robinson, battled the Briscoe Brothers for the ROH Tag Team Titles. Finlay and Juice came up short in their efforts to capture the belts and Finlay dislocated his shoulder in the process.

After the match, Finlay tweeted out, “I did dislocated my shoulder last night but it’s back in now. I’ll see a doctor when I’m home to see what the damage is but hopefully it’s nothing too serious.”

There is no timetable for Finlay’s return.

You can view NJPW’s full statement below.

David Finlay injured his left shoulder on 23rd February during his match in Korakuen Hall.

※ Additionally, David Finlay’s replacement in the New Japan Cup is also undecided.

We are truly sorry to all to all the fans who were looking forward to seeing David Finlay’s matches. We are hoping for his speedy recovery.
