Jose Aldo Wants To Fight Alexander Volkanovski At UFC 237
Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo was last seen in action at UFC Fight Night Fortaleza, defeating Renato Moicano by second round TKO.
Aldo, who has two fights left before a self-imposed retirement, wants to fight Alexander Volkanovski and have that bout happen at UFC 237.
“I gave them some names, but Volkanovski is a good opponent and is on a great streak,” Aldo said at a media event (via MMA Fighting). “He’s coming off a great win over Chad Mendes, so it would be a great fight. That’s why we asked him, it’s a great match-up. He’s a very aggressive fighter, comes forward, so we already had in mind asking for him after (fighting) Moicano. Let’s see if it works. There’s a possibility we fight at lightweight, too, but that’s up to ‘Dede’ (Pederneiras). He has to negotiate.”
Volkanovski last competed at UFC 232 in December of 2018, defeating Chad Mendes by second round TKO.
The former featherweight champion has lost twice to current UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway, whom Aldo wants to see win against Tony Ferguson in a potential interim lightweight title bout at UFC 236.
”I root for his victory because he’s a kid that deserves it,” Aldo said.
UFC 237 takes place on Saturday, May 11 from the Arena Da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
