Bantamweight Champion Marlon Moraes To Resign With WSOF
World Series Of Fighting Bantamweight Champion Marlon Moraes knocked out Josh Hill with a head kick at the WSOF 32, it would be the last fight on his contract with the promotion before he hit free agency.
Moraes’s manager, Ali Abdel-Aziz, has told MMA Fighting, that not only will his fighter be staying with the promotion he has called home for many years now, but his next title defense will be taking place at the promotions Madison Square Garden debut this December. No opponent has yet to be announced.
Moraes has been the promotion's only bantamweight champion, capturing the belt by defeating Josh Rettinghouse by decision at the WSOF IX. Moraes has already defended the championship four times, defeating the aforementioned Josh Hill (twice), Sheymon Da Silva Moraes and Joseph Barajas. Prior to winning the championship, Moraes defeated former WEC Bantamweight Champion and UFC veteran Miguel Torres at the inaugural WSOF event in November 2012.
The top two contenders for the bantamweight title are Timur Valiev and Bekbulat Magoomedov. Either of them could be challenging Moraes for the gold when the WSOF heads to Madison Square Garden.
If Moraes will be competing at the MSG event as his manager claims, he would go into the fight with an undefeated streak that has last over five years. His last defeat came in November of 2011.
