PCO Claims There Were Plans For Him To Win The WWF Championship From Bob Backlund

PCO goes over a number of topics during this interview and even shares some information regarding a possible WWF World Title win.

Pierre Carl Ouellet or better known as PCO is having a career resurgence at the age of 51-years old. PCO burst back on to the independent scene during WrestleMania 34 weekend in New Orleans when he had a highly-regarded match with PROGRESS World Champion WALTER at Joey Janela’s ‘Spring Break 2’. From that match going forward, PCO has been booked to appear at various shows and this past December it was reported and confirmed that he signed an exclusive deal with Ring Of Honor and he is now a part of the Villain Enterprises stable with Marty Scurll and Brody King.

The former 3-time WWF Tag Team Champion has gained star power on a level that he did not have during the earlier portions of his career but that could’ve been different according to PCO. He spoke with Sporting News and shared that there were talks about him possibly winning the WWF Championship from Bob Backlund to get a pop from the crowd in Canada and dropping the title a few weeks later in America but the plan did not go through.

“There was a time when Vince McMahon and the management were going to go all the way with me and put the World Title on me in Canada. After The Quebecers split up, me and Jacques worked some matches in Montreal that [did] brilliant business for the WWE with sold out stadiums. Vince was doing okay with the Canadian loop of Montreal, Quebec City, and Toronto and it was discussed that I’d win the belt from Bob Backlund in one of those cities to a big reception and then drop the belt to either Diesel or Bret back in America a few weeks later. I was essentially going to be a caretaker champion for a short period. In the end, for reasons I don’t know, Vince went off the idea and went in a different direction. The news made me sore as it was always my dream to be a World Champion.” PCO expressed.

The conversation then turned over to PCO and The Kliq not being on the best of terms while they shared a locker room together. PCO was asked does he think that is the reason he did not get to hold the World Title in WWE and he replied by saying that it is easy to blame the likes of Diesel and Shawn Michaels but he could’ve handled the situation better as well.

“Probably, but although they had Vince McMahon’s ear, I still think I was okay with Vince because he gave the Jean Pierre Lafitte character a lot of support and allowed me to work with Bret Hart on a regular basis.” PCO said. “Today in 2019 it’s very easy to blame the likes of Diesel and Shawn Michaels for whatever happened back then, but I could’ve handled the situation a lot better too. The main issue for me is that these guys were playing around with the livelihoods of so many people and they didn’t care about what financial pressures people were under. The amount of wrestlers they kept down or got fired just so they could keep the money and spotlight on themselves was something that I thought needed to be spoken up about. My biggest falling out with them came when I refused to do a job for Diesel when we were working in Montreal. I’d been told the plan was to go back there at some point for another match and I don’t believe it made sense for me to lose clean. This made them all go a little bit crazy and soon after I was gone from the WWE. Vince still held me in some regard because he came to me with other ideas, but it wasn’t a nice place to work and I got my release a little bit later.” PCO shared.
