Natalya Reflects On Being The Iron Woman Of The Women’s Royal Rumble Match, Talks Becky Lynch, More
Nattie takes a look back at the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble match.
This past Sunday’s Women’s Royal Rumble match saw former NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, Io Shirai, Kacy Catanzaro and other current stars under the WWE umbrella get their time to shine on a big stage such as the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Ultimately, it was the former two-time SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch who won the Rumble match and is now set to challenge Ronda Rousey for the RAW Women’s Title at WrestleMania 35.
Fellow former SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Natalya wrote about her experience in the Women’s Royal Rumble match in her latest blog post for ‘SLAM Sports’ as she spent a total of 56 minutes in the match — making her the iron woman of this year’s 30-woman battle royal.
(Here are a few excerpts from Natalya’s blog post):
he Rumble had so many memorable moments. Who would have thought Kacy Catanzaro could walk herself back to the ring on her hands and climb up the ring like a spider monkey to save herself from being eliminated? That was marvelous! Naomi ran like a cat along the barriers where the WWE Universe was sitting and jumped all the way to the stairs to almost make it back to the ring, before being sneak attacked and eliminated by Mandy Rose.
Undeniably, the most surreal moment of the match was when Becky Lynch won. Everyone in attendance was on their feet. I’ve known Becky since we went on our first tour of Japan together in 2005, long before either of us had set foot on the big stage of WWE. Becky worked hard to get to WWE and she never stopped fighting for her dreams. She has been waiting for years to have this moment.
Although I wish I had been the winner of the Rumble, I couldn’t be happier for my friend. When Becky came backstage, we were both covered in sweat and tears. I hugged her and whispered in ear “this is your time to shine, this is your moment.” I walked back to the locker room even in defeat, thinking “this is what dreams are made of.”
