Ronda Rousey: Four Horsewomen Is Nothing But Marketing For Sasha, Charlotte, Becky And Bayley
Ronda Rousey still believes her group is the real Four Horsewomen.
The MMA Horsewomen (Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir) and WWE Horsewomen (Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Bayley) is a long-standing rivalry that has played out through social media more than on-screen. But that has changed in recent weeks with Sasha Banks holding up four fingers in order to taunt Rousey.
Following their Royal Rumble bout, Rousey and Banks showed mutual respect towards one another, shaking hands before Banks once again flashed the four fingers. In a backstage interview, Rousey gave her thoughts on Banks taunting her with the sign of the Horsewomen.
“As a competitor, I have respect for her. I just think the Four Horsewomen is the only real point of contention for me, you know? Me and my friends were the Four Horsewomen before we came to WWE,” said Rousey. “It wasn’t a gimmick or a marketing ploy or something to make us more popular because we are aligned. It was like this is real, it’s personal. This is our lives and they’re taking something that’s near and dear to our hearts and just trying to package it and sell it to the masses. I mean they don’t even like each other. I don’t know, it’s just something that is so personal and near and dear to me and my friends that if they held the four’s up in the same regard that we do I would have respect for that, but for them, (the four fingers) is nothing but marketing. They don’t have that bond that we have. It’s just for show. It’s ‘for life’ for us.”
Rousey successfully defended her Raw Women’s Title against Banks at the Royal Rumble. She could be facing another member of the Horsewomen real soon as Becky Lynch won the Women’s Royal Rumble, earning her a title shot at either Women’s Title at WrestleMania.
