Aaron Pico says weight cut wasn’t a factor in KO loss to Henry Corrales at Bellator 214
Some have said that the weight cut may be too much for Pico, but the fighter says there has never been an issue with that.
“No, the cuts not hard at all. What the people don’t realize is that I really don’t cut weight all that much, I watch what I eat all year around…but the cut is actually not bad. I make it easier than I did maybe four/five years ago, I make it a lot easier. Everything is going well with my training, everything is on point. My meal prep is good, my coaching is good. It’s just a little simple mistake…getting hit in the head, there’s not much to say. People can make all the excuses in the world, (saying) the coaching is bad or this or that, no the weight cut is good. I’m definitely too small for 155, I mean I walk around at 165 and have to fight at 156…there’s no way. 145 is the bets weight class for me,” Pico said to Fightful’s James Lynch during the Bellator 214 post-fight press conference.
Pico has now suffered two losses as a professional MMA fighter, with the other coming to Zach Freeman at Bellator 180.
There are some fighters who will disappear after a tough loss, but Pico has no plans to carry out those kinds of plans.
“I’m sure I’ll be facing a lot of negativity, for a few days I’ll be off it and just go be with my family…preparing to go on a little vacation. I’ve been here before, its not my style to just hide and go home and not face the media, because You guys are here for me when I’m doing good and you guys are here when I’m doing bad. You can’t be that guy, I don’t know what the term is on top of my head…but when everything’s going well, they’re here. (But when) they’re not doing so well, they say ‘screw it, I’m going home’ and hide from the world. Its the way I was brought up, my dad would tell me ‘you just can’t go out there when everything is good and when things go bad, you can’t just turn around and not face it.’ It sucks sometimes, but you just do what you do,” says Pico.
The loss for Pico snapped a four fight winning streak for the fighter, who now holds a pro MMA record of 4-2-0.
