In front of what will be 40,000-plus rabid wrestling fans at ‘Chase Field’ in Phoenix, Arizona tonight, Daniel Bryan will defend his WWE Championship against AJ Styles. The new and improved Daniel Bryan arose on the Survivor Series go-home show for SmackDown Live. Bryan gave up on trying to please the fans and did what he felt was necessary to become World Champion once again.
From that point forward, Bryan has not let off the gas with explaining to the world what he is trying to accomplish not only in the ring but outside of it as well. “The New” Daniel Bryan joined the ‘State Of Combat’ podcast with Brian Campbell and went into detail about his heel turn and revealed that the decision to take him to the other side was made on the day of.
“I get there the day of, things are happening, and it’s a day-of decision. After that, it’s like, wow, I get a completely clean slate to do whatever I want now. Not whatever I want now — I have to get the company to agree to it [laughing] — but this is my opportunity,” he said. “I had re-envisioned and reimagined the way that I wanted to wrestle and all that kind of stuff; as I age, I really reimagined the way I wanted to wrestle, characters I wanted to be, stories I wanted to tell and that kind of stuff. This is my opportunity to do all of that.”
Bryan also admitted that a lot of the things he says in his promos on WWE TV is how he truly feels and when he goes on rants about the environment being trashed by other humans, that is coming straight from the mind of the WWE Champion.
“A lot of the things the character Daniel Bryan says are a lot of things I think — not about other people but actually about myself,” Bryan admitted. “It’s using that mindset to tell people they’re the problem while fully knowing I’m also the problem.”
