Trent Seven Thinks It’s Pathetic When Fans Call Wrestlers “Sell-Outs” For Signing With WWE
Trent Seven does not understand the “sell-out” comment.
Over the past year, WWE has consistently been in headlines for bringing in top talents from the independent wrestling scene and those talents come from Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The ever-growing NXT UK brand are a part of that formula as the likes of WALTER, Toni Storm, Rhea Ripley, Mark Andrews and many more are signed to deals. Some look at the signings and are happy that the wrestlers have signed with the sports-entertainment company but there are those who feel that wrestlers who sign with WWE have turned their backs on the independent wrestling scene.
Former ICW World Heavyweight Champion Trent Seven discussed this very topic when ‘JOE’ did a profiling of NXT UK after the unveiling of the WWE Performance Center in England. Seven called it pathetic how people can refer to wrestlers who sign with WWE as “sell-outs” including himself after all the work that they’ve put in on the independent scene.
“It’s codswallop [British for “nonsense”]. Absolute codswallop,” he says. “It’s the most pathetic thing in the world. You don’t want to sound too egotistical, but in all fairness [after] what we’ve done in the last two years for the independent scene, for certain fans to turn around and say that now it is ruined, is probably the stupidest thing I’ve heard anyone say. It is quite clear [British wrestling] is at the absolute peak of where it has ever been.”
