Report: Sam Alvey Replaces Ryan Spann At UFC 234

Ryan Spann has suffered an undisclosed injury and has been pulled from UFC 234 according to News.com.au, replacing him against Jim Crute is going to be Sam Alvey.

Crute (9-0-0) has already competed once under the UFC banner, defeating Paul Craig by third round submission at UFC Fight Night Adelaide. Crute earned a contract with the UFC after competing on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 14, defeating Chris Birchler by first round TKO. Crute is also a former Hex Fight Series Light Heavyweight Champion, but relinquished the gold after signing with the UFC earlier this year.

Alvey (33-11-0-1NC) enters the contest having won two of his last three in the UFC, with those wins coming over the duo of Marcin Prachnio and Gian Villante. Alvey has competed at both middleweight and light heavyweight in the UFC, holding an overall record of 10-6-0 in the promotion. Alvey has suffered eleven losses as a professional MMA fighter and eight of them have come by way of decision.

UFC 234 takes place on Saturday, February 9 from the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia with Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
