Chris Weidman Undergoes “Unexpected” Neck Surgery

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman was last seen in action at UFC 230, suffering a third round knockout loss to former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza.

Things took a much decided turn for the worse recently for Weidman, who recently underwent an “unexpected” neck surgery this past Wednesday to get disk replacement therapy.

Weidman revealed the news through Instagram Stories, saying the following:

“Kind of an unexpected neck surgery yesterday. I’ll explain soon, but I’m all good, and I’ll be healthy soon.”

There is no word as to what lead to the unexpected neck surgery for the former middleweight kingpin, but the fighter did promise to reveal more in the future. Weidman was just seen in the crowd at UFC Fight Night Brooklyn with teammates Aljamain Sterling, Gian Villante and others.

The former middleweight champion is in the midst of the worst run of his professional MMA career, having won just one of his last five under the UFC banner. That lone win came over Kelvin Gastelum via third round submission at UFC On Fox 25, but the four losses did come to fighters who have either challenged or held a middleweight title in either the UFC, Bellator MMA and/or Strikeforce.
