Report: WBA Looking To Make Four-Man Tournament To Settle Secondary Heavyweight Title Situation
The WBA is reportedly taking steps to finally fix its mess regarding its secondary and interim heavyweight title.
According to Mike Coppinger, the WBA is looking to make a four-man tournament involving Jarrell Miller, Trevor Bryan, Manuel Charr and Fres Oquendo. The hope is that such a tournament can be made to reduce the number of heavyweight world titles and have the winner face unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who holds the WBA’s “Super” version of the belt.
As it stands, Bryan is the WBA interim champion and Charr is still considered the “Regular” champion even after failing a drug test several months back which canceled a fight between Charr and Oquendo, the mandatory challenger for the title. Miller would fight Bryan and Charr would get to fight Oquendo.

Coppinger reports that the fight between Charr and Oquendo is pretty much agreed upon but not the bout between Miller and Bryan. The reason for that is that Miller could potentially get a shot at Joshua’s WBA, WBO and IBF titles if Joshua does not get an opponent for April at Wembley Stadium. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently said Joshua could face Miller at Madison Square Garden in June in the main event of a boxing card streamed on DAZN.
