Eddie Hearn: DAZN Is The Place For Gennady Golovkin To Face The Best Middleweights
Eddie Hearn has made his feelings clear about Gennady Golovkin coming on to DAZN.
The British promoter talked to DAZN on its most recent boxing show, which took place on January 18 at Madison Square Garden, and said he would love to bring the former middleweight world champion onto DAZN.
The streaming service has managed to bring Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade, all middleweight titleholders, to DAZN and with those champions being on the roster, Hearn said it is the only place Golovkin should sign if he wants to keep fighting the best. Golovkin is boxing’s biggest free agent after his deal with HBO expired this past September and the network shut down its boxing division at the end of 2018.
Should Golovkin sign with DAZN, it could potentially mean rematches with both Alvarez and Jacobs. Both champions are meeting in a three-belt unification on May 4 in the main event of a DAZN card.
“Gennady is a smart guy. He’s going to speak to everybody and make his decision. I guess that’s going to come soon. We’ll leave him to that. We’ve made our feelings clear. John Skipper and myself and everybody else would love to have him on this platform. We would love for him to be in those mixes of Canelo vs. GGG 3, even Danny Jacobs once he beats Canelo. But for me, this is the only place to be for the middleweights. All the belts are on DAZN. I know Gennady Golovkin is about legacy. He’s about championships. He’s about beating the very best and to do that, you have to be on DAZN. Whatever decision he makes, we respect it, but we’d love to have him to come in and be a part of this incredible journey and hopefully fight the winner of [Canelo vs. Jacobs] in September,” Hearn said.
