UFC Brooklyn Top 15: Joanne Calderwood, Joseph Benavidez, Glover Teixeira, Gregor Gillespie All Shine

The superfight between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw was the marquee fight at UFC Brooklyn, but the event was supported with over a half dozen ranked competitors on the undercard.

#15 Gregor Gillespie just barely cracked the Welterweight top-15, landing in a tied position, but was set to face a veteran of the game in Yancy Medeiros. It was a one sided affair, as Gillespie moved to 6-0 in the UFC after a dominant ground and pound finish in round 2.

#2 Joseph Benavidez served as a backup for the Flyweight title main event, but his opponent, #8 Dustin Ortiz, showed up on championship weight as well. In a rematch of the 2014 fight that Benavidez won, he went to 2-0 against Ortiz after working his way to a unanimous decision win.

#12 light heavyweight Glover Teixeira isn’t near the title picture by any means, but didn’t want late-replacement Karl Roberson to get famous at his expense. Despite getting dropped with some brutal elbows against the cage, Glover rallied back to tap out Roberson with an arm triangle choke. Glover said after the fight that he wanted a bout with “Shogun” Rua.

#10 Joanne Calderwood long lobbied for a UFC women’s Flyweight division, and was tasked with her latest opponent in highly touted prospect Ariane Lipski. After an early Lipski flurry, Calderwood wore her opponent down and earned a unanimous decision victory. After the win, Calderwood called out Jessica Eye.

While not a top-15 fight, Paige Vanzant also got back in the win column with an armbar win over Rachel Ostovich.
