Sheamus: “One Of The Most Popular Characters That WWE Has Right Now Is The Velveteen Dream”

Sheamus talks about the importance of characters in WWE.

One week from this Sunday at WWE’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Sheamus and Cesaro will be defending their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against Shane McMahon and The Miz. Sheamus and Cesaro are looking to continue their reign as champions as they’ve been on top of the blue brand’s tag team division since October of 2018. Ahead of this upcoming Tuesday’s edition of SmackDown Live and the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Sheamus chatted with ‘Solo Wrestling’ about the importance of characters in professional wrestling but primarily in WWE.

Sheamus stated that there is an absence of characters in the sports-entertainment company but he named-dropped a few names who are shutting his words down such as “Demon King” Finn Balor and the Velveteen Dream.

“Today a very different product is offered. I think we’re missing some characters? Yes I believe it. I think we are leaving the creation of characters a little abandoned.” Sheamus expressed. “Any important series like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, base their product around the characters and their background. I think the athletes and wrestlers that we have today are the best in the history of the business, although in turn I think the business has changed to what people want to see. Then you see Finn Bálor with his alter ego from The Demon, you also have the Bludgeon Brothers – there are a lot of characters, but I think they should be reinforced a bit more. Perhaps one of the most popular characters that WWE has right now is the prodigy of NXT, The Velveteen Dream. He is a 23-year-old star, talented and with an arrogant character who is destined to do great things in the future.”

Sheamus also shared his thoughts about the angle on SmackDown Live when Mandy Rose inadvertently helped The Bar beat The Usos. To hear some thoughts on the most recent edition of SmackDown Live on-which Jimmy Uso and Naomi took a trip to Mandy’s hotel room, head over to Fightful’s “podcasts” section.
