Jon Jones May Be Looking Into Getting UFC 214 No Contest Overturned
UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier have clashed twice before, with Jones winning at UFC 182 and an initial Jones win at UFC 214 being overturned to a no contest due to a failed drug test in line with the event.
After gaining some knowledge about the abnormalities found in some recent drug tests, it would appear that Jones may attempt to get the UFC 214 no contest overturned back to a win.
“From what I understand, this stuff [Turinabol] can lay in your body for over seven years,” Jones said at the UFC 232 post-fight press conference. “And from what I understand, when I fought the first time with Daniel Cormier, there was never a short-term metabolite found. There was no mid-term metabolite found. There’s only a long-term metabolite found. So who says this hasn’t been in my body since who knows how long? Maybe seven years ago? That’s why I’m looking at trying to get my first DC fight overturned.“
The UFC did move UFC 232 from Las Vegas, Nevada to Inglewood, California after the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) found an abnormality in Jones’ drug test, which may have come from a long term metabolite mentioned by Jones in the above statement.
Whether that fight result gets overturned or not, one thing Jones knows is that DC was never the real UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
“He was never the light heavyweight champion,” Jones said. “He never beat me. This has been my era since 2011. I want to make that loud and clear. DC is no champ-champ. You talk about asterisks next to my name? There’s always going to be an asterisk next to the idea of him being a champ-champ.”
Jones recently did challenge Cormier to a third fight after UFC 232, a challenge that has yet to be answered by the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
