Demetrius Andrade Looking To Fight The Rest Of The Middleweight Elite
WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade said he is ready to fight the rest of the elite fighters at 160 pounds.
Andrade recently spoke out on his intentions on fighting the rest of the middleweight division’s top boxers, which includes the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs and more. Andrade said his goal is to fight the other champion in the division as well as fight undefeated boxers aiming for the title. With Andrade being signed to Matchroom Boxing USA and committed to DAZN, Andrade feels he could get those fights.
Most of the division’s world titles are with DAZN as Alvarez holds the WBA and WBC titles and IBF champion Jacobs could also potentially head on over to DAZN as well.
“I’m out there trying to fight the undefeated guys, the champions, that’s what I want,” Andrade said. “I get in there with anyone at 160 lbs. – and I beat them all. It’s the time for the elite to fight each in 2019, people want to see me fight the big names and I want them.”
The unbeaten Andrade won the vacant title, previously held by Billy Joe Saunders, in October when he defeated Walter Kautondokwa in the main event of a DAZN card in Boston.
“My first fight was meant to be Saunders – an undefeated champion – and then I beat another undefeated fighter to win the title. That’s what I am about and that’s what I want my year to be, champion vs. champion, Demetrius Andrade vs. the best out there,” Andrade said.
The 30-year-old WBO champion will defend his title against Artur Akavov in the main event of a boxing card on DAZN at Madison Square Garden on January 18.
