Vitor Belfort Says He’s Coming Back Next Year

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort last competed at UFC 224, suffering a knockout loss to former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida.

Despite Belfort saying UFC 224 would serve as his last fight, it would appear that the MMA legend is ready to compete again.

“I’m going to keep going – not stopping,” Belfort said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “I’m a free agent. … We are in conversation (to sign with an organization). I have some good news: (In) 2019, I come back.”

Belfort has had a rough time in recent years as an MMA fighter, having won just two of his last seven encounters.

The longtime UFC star says that its a perfect time to be a free agent in MMA and he can bring a lot of value to which ever company the fighter winds up signing with.

“I could not choose a better time for me to be a free agent and what I can bring to the table,” Belfort said. “I’m looking to add value and what I’m really looking for – I see that we need a change. I’m a fighter and an athlete.”

There is no word yet on which promotion may sign Belfort, who hasn’t fought outside of the UFC in almost a decade.
