Kelly Kelly Praises Ronda Rousey: “What She’s Doing For WWE Is Huge”

Kelly Kelly reflects on how far the women’s division has come and offers praise for Ronda Rousey.

Speaking to Kristine Leahy on Fair Game, Kelly Kelly gave her thoughts on the current state of the WWE women’s division.

“It was 12 years when I started. To see how far women’s wrestling has come….I was stripteasing on live television and getting beat with a kendo stick,” she recalled. “To now, women have taken over. It is amazing to see where they are at. When they started the women’s revolution, I said, ‘I want to be a part of this. I want to be in it.’ When I retired five years ago, the women weren’t featured as much.”

A big reason for the women’s boom in WWE has been the addition of Ronda Rousey, who brought with her mainstream attention.

Kelly Kelly said of Rousey, “What she’s doing for the sport and WWE is so huge. She caught on so well. I can’t imagine going from UFC, real fighting, to WWE, where you have to hold back. She’s been training for whole life to really beat someone up. She’s owning it and doing a great job. I don’t think I’d ever be able to get into the ring with her (knowing her MMA background).”

Kelly Kelly left WWE in 2012, but returned to the ring at the Royal Rumble this past January, taking part in the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble. She also appear at WWE Evolution on Oct. 28, wrestling in the women’s battle royal.
