Will Ospreay Defeats Taichi To Become The #1 Contender To The NEVER Openweight Championship
Will pulls it off.
The former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay has been out of action for two months because of a rib injury he suffered at Rev Pro and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Global Wars show. Ospreay was originally slated to go one-on-one with Taichi who was holding the NEVER Openweight Championship at the time at the November 3rd ‘Power Struggle’ show. Instead, Taichi defended the strap against longtime rival Hirooki Goto who he ultimately ended up losing the title to.
After two months on the shelf, Ospreay made his return to New Japan tonight on the final night of World Tag League and clashed with Taichi for the right to call themselves the #1 contender to the NEVER Openweight Championship.

The battle-tested Will Ospreay fought with his ribs taped up and Taichi made sure to go after the vulnerable area of Ospreay.
Throughout the pain, Ospreay was able to fight through his injury and hit his new finishing maneuver to secure the victory and earn himself a NEVER Openweight Championship match against the winner of today’s Kota Ibushi versus Hirooki Goto championship bout.
Keep and eye on Fightful for the full results from tonight’s show once it has concluded.
