UFC 231: Holloway vs Ortega Gate, Attendance And Bonus Information
The Octagon returned to Toronto on Saturday night with an event headlined by two title fights. UFC 231: Holloway vs. Ortega drew 19,039 fans for a gate of $2,481,552. The attendance number is a UFC record at the Scotiabank Arena/Air Canada Centre.
The last time UFC was in Toronto was for UFC 206 in December 2016, headlined by Max Holloway against Anthony Pettis. That event drew 18,057 fans for a gate of $1.8 million. The UFC gate record for an event held at the Scotiabank Arena/Air Canada Centre is held by UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida, which drew 18,303 fans for a gate of $3.9 million.
As far as bonuses go, Max Holloway walked away a richer man. Holloway not only took home a Performance of the Night bonus for his main event victory over Brian Ortega, he and Ortega nabbed the Fight of the Night bonus as well. Holloway successfully defended his UFC Featherweight Title in the main event, stopping Ortega after four rounds following 20-minutes of nonstop action. Holloway has won a bonus in three of his last four fights.
The other Performance of the Night bonus went to Thiago Santos, who knocked out Jimi Manuwa just 41-seconds into the second round of their light heavyweight clash. This is Santos’ third Performance of the Night bonus of his career.
