Silas Young On Signing With ROH Over WWE: There’s Only So Many Spots In WWE
Silas Young explains why he stayed with ROH.
Over the weekend, Silas Young revealed that he signed a new three-year deal with ROH. His contract had expired at the end of November and rumors were that he was WWE bound. He recently attended a WWE Raw event, but was reportedly only there because his son is a big fan.
Speaking to Busted Open Radio, Young explained why he chose ROH over WWE.
“I have a few friends that work with WWE, and I had a friend who works there call and ask if I would be interested when my contract was up to come work there. I think wrestling is absolutely one of those businesses where you have to have an open mind and you have to consider all the options,” said Young. “At the time I definitely considered the option. As time went by, all these rumors started to pop up about me signing with WWE like it was a done deal. At that point all I had was a few phone conversations and texts. Then a few weeks back I had heard from the guy that takes care of ROH contracts — he was under the assumption that I had already signed with WWE. The internet and wrestling fans can really take a little bit of information and run wild with it.”
Young continued, “What it came down to is, I wanted to stay with ROH because what we’re doing is this really great thing. The freedom we’re given to be ourselves and take chances is huge. A big piece of it is believing in a company that believed in me. Considering the fact that WWE, they are arguably the top of the game, but there’s only so many spots there. They have so many guys under contract. I decided to go with the sure bet and the team that’s backed me forever.”
Young has been with ROH full-time since 2012 and is a two-time ROH Television Champion. He is scheduled to appear at Final Battle Fallout on Dec. 15.
