Josh Thomson Claims The UFC Is Adding A 165 Pound Division In 2019

Fighters and fans alike have been calling for the UFC to add a 165 pound weight class for quite come time now.

UFC President Dana White has been skeptical about adding another weight class, having said in the past that it won’t happen.

However, former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion and UFC veteran Josh Thomson is claiming the 165 pound weight class is coming to the promotion early next year.

Thomson would post the following on Twitter:

There is no mention by Thomson as to which executives he spoke with about the possibility of the UFC adding a new weight class. The UFC current has twelve weight classes total, ranging from women’s strawweight to the men’s heavyweight division. The UFC has also had some issues with developing weight classes in the past, as the women’s featherweight division has been around since UFC 208 and there is still no official top 15 ranking system for the weight class.

It would be an interesting choice by the UFC to add a new weight class in 2019, considering that the men’s flyweight division is expected to be eliminated next year as well.
