Report: Gennady Golovkin Met With PBC Over Potentially Joining With Them
Premier Boxing Champions is looking to add former middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin to join its already impressive roster of boxers.
According to Mike Coppinger, Golovkin met with PBC with the idea that Golovkin becomes the latest boxing star to sign with the company. Coppinger reported that the meeting went well and that PBC founder Al Haymon is confident that he can sign Golovkin.
PBC currently has multi-year broadcast deals with Showtime and FOX and has a few stars at middleweight and super middleweight including interim WBC 160-pound titleholder Jermall Charlo, Sergiy Derevyanchenko and WBC 168-pound “Champion in Recess” David Benavidez.

Haymon’s company is just one of a few that is trying to sign Golovkin, one of the biggest stars in the sport. Top Rank Boxing, who has its own broadcast deal with ESPN, and DAZN, who works with Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing, is also looking to sign Golovkin. The 36-year-old fighter is coming off a loss to Canelo Alvarez in a pay-per-view bout back in September, a loss that ended Golovkin’s long reign as the middleweight world champion.
Golovkin is currently a television free agent after his contract with HBO ran out and the network announced that they would no longer be doing boxing broadcasts starting in 2019.
