Big Show Recalls Having Brain Surgery To Remove A Tumor When He Was 19 Years Old
Big Show shares a story.
The Big Show has been in the sport of professional wrestling since the early 90s and has seemingly done it all with multiple World Championship victories, being featuring in movies and he is still around to this day. The Big Show was last featured on WWE TV this past Tuesday when he separated from the SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions Sheamus and Cesaro when Cesaro began to speak with base in his voice to the giant. Big Show loaded up his right hand and dropped Cesaro into Sheamus’ arms.
Prior to WWE Survivor Series, Big Show did tons of PR for WWE and one of the destinations he stopped past was Hot 97 wth Peter Rosenberg, Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez. During their conversation Big Show took it back to when he was nineteen years old and in college and needed to have surgery on his pituitary gland to have a tumor removed in order to get his growth in order because he was continuously growing. The Great Khali had that same surgery done in 2012 and Big Show shared the details of it and how it could’ve went wrong had it not been done to perfection.
“I don’t know honestly. I think maybe they were doing it in the 60s and 70s, but here’s the thing; the pituitary gland is located under the front lobe of the brain. If you were to go straight through the nose and straight through the ear where those two lines intersect, that’s where the pituitary gland is – in that bone pocket so it’s basically brain surgery.” He said. “They have to go in, chip out that little pocket of bone, with a laser, cut the tumor and hopefully not damage the pituitary gland because the pituitary gland runs so many senses: your eye moisture, tear ducts, nasal passages and your testosterone… it’s like a governor for so many things in your body that – that surgery sometimes, if not done properly can damage other things so then you’re on medication the rest of your life just to try and be normal. So I got really lucky and everything turned out. One of the bad side effects to Acromegaly is it leads to diabetes and a lot of things if not corrected so I got lucky with it. I still have to pay attention to it.”
As mentioned in the article, Big Show has separated himself from The Bar so the duo will be on their own come TLC when they defend their SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles against The Usos and The New Day in a Triple-Threat tag team match.
