EXCLUSIVE: Jesse Ronson talks short-notice Carlos Diego Ferreira fight at UFC 231
This bout will mark the beginning of Ronson’s second run with the UFC, which all began after Ronson made a change in managers.
“My old manager, Robert Rosetta, him and Danny (Rubenstein) used to work together. After I won the second title (in TKO) at welterweight, he (Rosetta) sent me a message saying ‘hey, are you still looking to get back in the UFC.’ I said year, why…can you help. He said ‘no, but I got a guy’ and he gave me Danny’s number…I called him and the rest is history. (Rubenstein was) probably a big one (factor in Ronson returning to the UFC) because he’s got a lot of UFC fighters in his roster right now that he works for or works with, he’s constantly in Sean Shelby’s ear as he’s always at the events. Its a no brainer when you see Sean Shelby and say ‘hey, I got a guy who’s ready, I got a guy who’s ready.’ So it just came together a lot easier,” says Ronson in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Ronson went winless during his first run with the UFC, dropping bouts to the trio of Michel Prazeres, Francisco Trinaldo and Kevin Lee.
A returning Ronson doesn’t see anyway in which Ferreira could get the win on Saturday Night.
“If Carlos Ferreira comes out fighting me the way I’ve seen him fight…like when he fought Jared Gordon or Olivier (Aubin-Mercier) or the two losses that he had beforehand, if he fights me like that….then yeah, I will finish him 100%. The only way he can fight me different is if he tries to cage stall me or maul me on the ground, I’ve trained my skills too much. There’s nothing about him that denotes that he’ll be able to control me on the cage or anything like that, so I can see myself finishing this fight by TKO,” says Ronson.
UFC 231 takes place on Saturday, December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Max Holloway and Brian Ortega headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
