Report: Several Boxers, Including Both Charlo Brothers, Miss WBC Drug Tests

With drug testing becoming a major issue in boxing, a report has stated that a number of boxers have missed drug tests ordered by the WBC.

According to Bad Left Hook’s Michael Woods, from October 1 to November 20, the WBC has attempted 28 tests with 22 of them being made. The tests were administered by VADA as part of the WBC Clean Boxing Program.

This meant that six tests were never successfully made. Interim WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, Juan José Velasco, Paddy Barnes, Lodumo Lamati and Patrick Texeira are the six boxers Woods reported that have missed drug tests.

This doesn’t prove that all those boxers are guilty of taking banned substances because they never took the tests to begin with. Missing those tests, however, could potentially bring some disciplinary actions against those boxers if the report is true. According to article 4.6 of the official WBC Rules and Regulations:

“If a boxer fails to submit to any examination or test required by these rules or ordered by the WBC, the WBC may take such actions as it deems appropriate in its sole discretion with respect to boxers, trainers, managers, promoters, etc., including but not limited to imposing fines, suspensions, removal from the ratings, revocation of challenger status and opportunities, or vacating a title.”

Both Charlo brothers are currently scheduled to fight on the December 22 PBC on FOX card in Brooklyn, New York. Jermall will face off against Willie Monroe while Jermell is scheduled to defend his title against Tony Harrison.
