Sadam Ali, Ryan Garcia, Lamont Roach Jr. To Fight On Canelo vs. Fielding Undercard

A number of former world champions and rising stars are set to fight on the December 15 Madison Square Garden boxing card.

The card will be headlined by Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding for the WBA “regular” super middleweight title. Former junior middleweight titleholder Sadam Ali will drop down to welterweight to fight on the undercard against Mauricio Herrera. This will be Ali’s first fight since losing his WBO 154-pound world title to Jaime Munguia on an HBO card back in May. Ali has not fought at welterweight since July 2017.

Ryan Garcia, a rising super featherweight contender, will fight for the first time under the tutelage of Eddy Reynoso, Alvarez’s head trainer, in a 10-round lightweight battle. No opponent for Garcia was named. Also announced for the card are the returns of top prospects Yves Ulysse Jr. and Vergil Ortiz. Both fighters are competing in separate 10-round junior welterweight bouts, but neither has any opponents announced.

Lamont Roach Jr. will defend his WBO International super featherweight title against Alberto Mercardo in another 10-round bout. Roach is coming off a sixth-round win over Delvi Julio Bassa back in July to win the WBO regional belt.

The previously announced middleweight bout between David Lemieux and Tureano Johnson has now been confirmed to be the co-main event bout. Lemieux is currently the mandatory challenger to the WBA “super” middleweight title being held by Alvarez. Fightful will provide live coverage of the event, which will be streamed on DAZN in the United States and in Canada.
