Rene Dupree Said WWE Used Plants To Get CM Punk Over

Rene Dupree revealed that WWE tried to find ways and get former WWE Champion CM Punk over with the crowd throughout his career.

Dupree had an interview with Hannibal TV and said that he witnessed WWE officials putting plants in arenas to try and create CM Punk chants.

“Yeah. They would do chants, and then it’s like a ripple effect," Dupree said. "They hear chants, chants, chants and then try and get the people up. CM Punk or ECW shirts, I’d see like three or four guys scattered around the arena. And I was like ‘wow’, but I guess if you really want to get somebody over.”

The former World Tag Team Champion also talked about working with Punk and the now famous podcast Punk had with Colt Cabana that had Punk explain his reasoning for leaving WWE.

“Ya we did work together a few times," Dupree said. "On the outside looking in, as an independent wrestler you’re like ‘what the? But you think of it when you’re there, you understand. Was he right to go on a podcast and tell his story? I think a lot of people wanted to know about it yeah, a lot of people were interested but now he’s being sued.”

Punk has said in the past since leaving WWE that he no longer wishes to wrestle, but also has said "never say never" in regards to returning. But for now, Punk said that he is solely focused on his MMA career. There is no word on if Punk will compete in UFC again after his loss to Mickey Gall at UFC 203.
